In business, willful negligence is rampant. Sometimes it ends with an abrupt, catastrophic “implosion,” as with the Titan. In other cases, the damage is done over a longer period of time – a cancer that grows slowly until it’s too late to turn around. Willful negligence comes in three forms with business owners.
your #1 job is to scale the business profitably. If that’s not your primary responsibility, what is? Doing the technical work? If so, you aren’t a business owner, you’re an employee. Get a job where you get benefits plus three weeks’ vacation and none of the risk and responsibilities that come with running a business.
Except for two very brief periods of my professional career, I’ve been in sales my entire life, my income directly tied to my ability to successfully hunt. As an entrepreneur, this has served me very, very well given the fact that ALL business owners and entrepreneurs are SALESPEOPLE on a “commission plan.” The real question is, are you any good at it?

So often, we don’t give weight to the mundane, daily things we do to at least maintain, if not advance, our situations, focusing on the immediate and urgent instead of thinking, planning and acting for the long term.
Recently, Bud Light attempted to reinvigorate its dying brand by hiring the transgender comedian Dylan Mulvaney to star in one of their ads to celebrate her 365 days of “being a woman.” The backlash was immediate and harsh, with a call for boycotts, and sales reportedly dropping a whopping 30%. I’ve also heard (not verified) that bar sales dropped 50%.
Bottom line, you do NOT have to “just take it” when someone bullies you, threatens you, insults you or criticizes you. You can definitely opt out of toxic, unproductive relationships and survive.
